To Champoluc, Italy

In week 10 1999 (6-14 of March) the always happy crowd left sweden for a week of skiing and snow boarding.  Here we can see me, Birger, Adam, Helena, /jme, Anders CHRISTER and Anna.
This year the use of cars for getting to the alps was less than other years. Magnus, Helena, Jakobwent by airplane. Christer and Adam used up Christer frequent-flyer-bonus. Sigge and /jme went in Siggemobilen and Anders, Anna, Birger and Karin went in Anders Saab.

Magnus and Helena, day 1

Malin and Anders T, are office collegues of mine and happened to be in Champoluc that week, they stayed for 3 more weeks...

Accomodation, Hotell Favre

Favre

Hotell Favre
Phone: 0125-307 131
Fax: 0125-307 131

The Hotel Favre, situated centrally in  Champoluc, administates a lot of different types of accomodations. Christer and Sigge stayed at a room in main building (distastefully decorated with red covering carpets, darkbrown  panels, pink curtains and orange towels) (800 000 lire = 4000kr dvs 2000 pro person).
Among the accomodation types adminstrated by Favre, Birger, Karin, Anders, Anna, /jme & Adam rented a flat in a house some bends upon the west side of the valley (1600000 lire, 1300kr/person). Magnus & Helena & Jakob rented a holiday flat not far away from Hotell Favre. Hotell Favre provides breakfast 8000 lire (40kr) pro day, a 7 course dinner with nice stuff from the sea costs about 250-300 kr wine included. We spent the last evening there and ate small, very fine "octopussys" and  what ever it may be called in english ... havsaborre.

Good beer was found on our After Ski place; le Sapain, where they also served some fine dinners, pizzas, cheese & wine, ice cream, capuccino.

Home again

When so the Saturday finally came, the car travvellers left early, Christer & Adam left for Milano, Magnusarna & Helenorna & Jakob spent another half day in the slopes before the bus transported them down to Turin Airport where they had to wait in the worlds most borting international departure lounge.

The Alanya Trip

This picture was taken on the way to Alanya, it is taken in the Gressoney valley that lies between Alanya and Champoluc.  Christer, Sigge, Adam, Malin, /Jme and Anders T. Missing in this picture is Magnus, Helena, Birger, Karin (and myself).  Anders and Anna stayed in Champoluc this day.
The long trip of the week was made on the Monday when we went over the mountain to Alanya, with looong  off-pist on the way there and a looong off-pist back again, (for those who are not too keen on off-pisting, the alternative way back from Alanya goes with a couple of busses to the outskirts of Milano, two trains and then a bus orf cab up to Champoluc again, a trip for at least 5-6 hours).
The off-pist to Alanya starts here. The refugio on the edge of the white plain lies withhout any roads, lifts or means of non-man  transports, the only way to get there is off-pist skiing (or boarding) It was however open when we passed by.

Here Birger is sitting on the top of the first slope below the refugio. The snow was ok up there but in the shaddows below it had a hard frozen surface.
The long slopes made some impressive views of the Champoluc valley.
Monte Cervinio, aka Matterhorn is hiding there somewhere
